An exhibition which tell of the dramatic events on the Island in the first part of the 19th Century when Jurby Church was built.

Increasing tensions between the Manx people, the Lord of Man and the Church came to a head when Jurby Church was built. The Island saw riots and arson against a new tithe on potatoes and both the Bishop and the Duke of Athol were forced off the island. At the centre of the drama were Robert and William Farrant, Jurby farmers, MHKs and Church Wardens. By the time of the church’s consecration the island had been sold for the final time to the Crown and many Jurby farmers were heading off for new lives in America.

19 August 3pm Organ Recital by the Isle of Man Organists’ Association.
