"Deep appreciation of Manx culture and history", says Reih Bleeaney Vanannan award winner

The researcher has spent more than 30-years compiling the Islands maritime history

Researcher Adrian Corkill has been awarded the Reih Bleeaney Vanannan cultural award for 2024.

It's s the most prestigious annual award for culture presented by Culture Vannin.

Mr Corkill has dedicated more than three decades of his life working on the maritime history of the Isle of Man, on a purely voluntary basis.

In 2003, he published a book compiling 85 shipwreck sites accessible to divers.

His research has taken into account newspaper reports, port records, crew and shipping registers, insurance and court documents.

In 2022, Mr Corkill offered to transfer his research for free to collections held by Manx National Heritage and incorporated into the Isle of Man Historic Environment Record database.

This allows his work to be accessed by researchers across the world.
