Lifesaving skills to be demonstrated in Douglas

CPR demonstrations will be held in October

People on the Island will have the opportunity to learn how to save a life next month.

The Restart a Heart Team will be holding CPR demonstrations, at the Strand Centre in Douglas, on 12 October.

The initiative is being led by Resuscitation Council UK in the hope of improving survival rates from sudden cardiac arrests.

Fewer that one in 10 people survive.

Between 10am and 4pm members of the Manx Care resus team and St John Ambulance will answer questions and give people the chance to have a go at CPR with and without defibrillators.

Senior Nurse Paul Ellis, who will be leading the event, said: "We have successfully delivered this workshop for a number of years now and encourage people of all ages to come along, as you never know when these skills may be needed.

"The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness and to teach CPR.

"Around 80 percent of cardiac arrests happen in the home, so your two hands really can help save a life."
