New sustainable woodworking venture for kids

Venture supported by Hartford Homes

There's a new sustainable woodworking venture for children and families on the Isle of Man.

Wood 'n' Craft offers workshops involving basic woodwork and craft activities for those aged three and upwards, and it's hoped there will soon be sessions designed specifically for adults.

The workshops will allow kids to experience basic skills such as sanding, hammering and drilling, and they can then decorate their creations and take them home.

The sessions have been launched with the support of Hartford Homes, and founders Laura Kinmond and Kelly Rout-Moore say they're very grateful for "the opportunity to collect wood waste material from the business, it’s really given us a boost as we start out on our Wood ‘n’ Craft journey.

"It also means our business is being run in a more environmentally friendly way, which is great for our biosphere Island too."

Wood 'n' Craft workshops will be held in different venues around the Island, and the first ‘Robot Builder Workshops’ took place recently.

Children created and built their own robot using drills, saws, hammers and screwdrivers, before decorating and personalising it in any way they wished.

There are still some places remaining for the Peel sessions on Sunday 29th October in Onchan.
