World Record attempt raises £22k for charities

22 Manx charities to receive a cut

A world record attempt event for the largest ever Pilates class held on the Island in July raised over £22,000.

Despite a strong turnout (2,804 participants) at Knockaloe Farm, it wasn’t enough to beat the existing record of 3,486 participants, set in Turkey in 2013.

However, a separate record for the most amount of people performing the “standing roll down exercise” for one minute was broken just before the larger record attempt.

Organisers Ramsey Crookall have now confirmed that 22 Isle of Man charities will each receive £1,000 raised through event registration fees and the raffle held on the day.

13. Sight Matters
14. St John Ambulance
15. The Children's Centre
16. Crossroads Isle of Man
17. Manx Wildlife Trust
18. Diana Princess of Wales Hospice Care at Home Trust
19. Mannin Cancer Support Group
20. Manx Mencap
21. Isle Stand Up to Suicide
22. Manx Breast Cancer Support Group

Joanna Crookall, CEO of Ramsey Crookall, said: "Our 80th anniversary gave me an opportunity to do something genuinely special for the Isle of Man. The event at Knockaloe brought 2,804 people together, celebrated an extraordinary part of our Island's history and ultimately resulted in a World Record achievement.

"It was also fantastic to welcome so many visitors from outside the Island. Having around one in five attendees come from off-Island demonstrates the potential for events rooted in our unique history and identity to attract new audiences and support the Island's visitor economy.

"From the beginning, I wanted the event to make a meaningful contribution to the community that Ramsey Crookall has been proud to call home for the past 80 years.

"We are therefore delighted that 22 local charities will each receive £1,000. These organisations make an enormous difference to people across the Island every day, and we hope this funding will help them continue that invaluable work.

"My sincere thanks go to every person who attended, volunteered, donated, bought a raffle ticket, worked at the event or helped make the day possible. This is something the whole Island can be proud of."
