Taxi rank and bus stop being relocated during work
Work to replace a pedestrian crossing in Douglas will take 20 weeks to complete and see a taxi rank relocated.
The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed the project on Victoria Street will start on Monday (3 October).
A raised crossing – designed to act as a ‘traffic calming measure’ - will be put in at the junction with Duke Street; the DoI has described it as ‘one of the busiest areas’ of the town centre.
Pavements, and the road, around the crossing will also be improved and there will be ‘re-siting’ of underground utilities.
The carriageway will remain open for the majority of the period - all businesses will operate as normal during the works.
The bus stop, and taxi rank, will be moved to the lower end of Victoria Street whilst the work is ongoing – it will take a two week break over the Christmas and New Year period.
CCJ Limited has been appointed as the main contractor for the scheme.
