Delegates consider new EU laws due next year
300 delegates attended a data protection conference yesterday (Wed) to decipher new EU legislation in the run up to its introduction.
Data overtakes oil as the world's biggest commodity with a value of 670 billion Euros on the continent - a trade the Isle of Man is looking to exploit.
That's why Information Commissioner Iain McDonald organised a conference to get Manx-based companies up to speed before the law changes on 25th May, 2018.
It's designed to support the single market - harmonising data privacy laws across the EU; but experts suggest around half of companies won't be compliant.
The conference took place at the Villa Marina, where keynote speaker, Barclays' vice president of Global Policy, Kevin Broadfoot, said what'll happen if it's ignored:
