Case committed to general gaol
A Santon man and his wife charged with VAT evasion have had their case committed to the Court of General Gaol.
Sixty-nine-year-old John Moore, of Meary Voar, was brought to court under warrant earlier this week for the committal hearing.
A letter sent to the court had said he was too ill to attend, but provided no evidence to show that was the case.
Mr Moore and his wife, Patricia - who together run Sheraton Ltd - allegedly evaded paying of £4.3 million of VAT between June 2010 and February 2015.
Mr Moore will be allowed to go away for medical treatment but only under consent of the court, following a written recommendation from a practitioner.
His bail was set at £1,000 by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.
