A&E attendances increasing year on year

Figures released as part of a Tynwald written question

The number of people attending the Accident and Emergency department at Noble’s Hospital is on the rise.

New figures have been published by the health minister following a written question from Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh.

The breakdown shows that between 1 January and 30 September this year there have been 34,687 attendances at A&E.

That's 466 more than the same period last year (34,221), and 2,800 more than in 2022 (31,887).

The increase in attendances can be seen across both adults and children.

When comparing data for the last two years, if it continues on trend, there will also be more attendee numbers for the year as a whole.

In 2022, 7,923 under 18s and 35,145 adults attended A&E, equalling 43,068 in total.

In 2023, 8,169 under 18s and 37,602 adults attended, equalling 45,771.
