Police attempt to prevent unnecessary calls
Police are reminding motorists what to do if they're involved in an accident, in the hope of preventing unnecessary phone calls to emergency services.
The current law states a driver must contact officers immediately if they've injured another person.
If a large domesticated animal has been injured, or another vehicle or property is damaged, identification details must be exchanged between those affected.
That rule covers dogs and horses - but not cats.
If information can't be obtained at the roadside, police should be contacted within 24 hours.
