Activities paused at Douglas RNLI as 'precautionary' step

Lifesaving charity issues statement following review of training progress

The RNLI has paused all volunteer exercise and assessment activity at Douglas Lifeboat Station.

For an initial period of approximately two weeks, the suspension is said to be a precautionary, safety-led step which follows a review of training progress.

The lifesaving charity says the pause will allow time to 'carefully consider the safest and most sustainable way forward'.

The capital's station has been off-service since the end of November 2025, however the RNLI says lifesaving coverage continues to be provided through existing arrangements and the Island's other lifeboat stations.

Despite the pause, the charity says it remains committed to the station and it's told Manx Radio it will work with volunteers and stakeholders and provide further updates when the next steps are clear.

Having moved from the former slipway and station on Battery Pier in 2018, crews took up base in adjacent shipping containers. 

Earlier this year, a planning application was approved to change the use of the Manx Marine building on the Tongue into a new temporary base.
