Manx plane crash marked
Workers at Liverpool John Lennon airport have been marking one of the site’s worst ever air crashes today.
Just after 6pm on July 20, 1965, a Cambrian Airways' Vickers Viscount flying from the Isle of Man crashed into a factory in Speke – killing two flight crew and two supervisors on the ground.
The two pilots, Michael Warrington and Peter Kenny, were killed instantly with factory workers June Simpson and Elizabeth Farrell.
As the plane was within seconds of landing, it rolled onto its back and crashed through the roof of the mothball factory – which had been packed with hundreds of workers just an hour earlier.
No definitive cause for the accident was ever established.
