Landowner Robert Morrey says the scheme will support farming industry

A public consultation was held this week for residents in Andreas, and the wider northern community to have their say on a proposal to build a renewable energy farm on the former airfield.

Plans from developer IPV Flexgen and landowner Robert Morrey show a solar panel farm and an anaerobic digestor could be used to support increasing electricity flow in the parish.

If approved, it's hoped the new grid would also support Manx farmers, provide new jobs and heat roughly 300 homes.

Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper spoke to these residents who said the plans are the future for the parish:

Landowner Robert Morrey hopes that the solar farm will provide local farmers with stability and long-term, index linked contracts for potentially 20 years.

He adds that if supported the solar farm and anaerobic generator could help support future development in the north:
