New appointee looking out for agriculture
The new director of Animal and Plant Health on the Island says the Island's agricultural business needs to remain nimble, and ready to adapt to changes in the years ahead.
Alistair Breed has taken over a role previously carried out by former Government Chief Vet Stewart Jacques, with added responsibility for Plant Health and disease prevention.
Mr Breed joined DEFA 24 years ago, and has been on secondment for the past three.
A recent Council of Ministers report named agriculture as one of the areas likely to be hit hardest by Brexit - sentiments echoed by the Chief Minister this month in an evidence session with a Westminster Select Committee.
Mr Breed says he will be aiming to ensure the Isle of Man maintains a healthy relationship with existing European trade partners:
