Committee hears about MSPCA work
The Isle of Man needs to improve its animal welfare legislation, using UK law as a template, a Tynwald committee has heard.
The two-person panel of South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft and David Cretney MLC today heard from the MSPCA's sanctuary manager Lyn Renshaw, welfare officer Adrian Cannell and the body's veterinary surgeon Ray Cox.
Many areas of animal welfare and the nature of the MSPCA's work were covered, concentrating on the need or otherwise to change the Island's legislation - the main focus of the committee.
Speaking after the hearing, Mr Cox said a particular case has really highlighted the inadequacies of the current laws:

Warning over flare disposal after amenity site fire
Suspended sentence for 56-year-old in cannabis supply case
Owner of a block of flats fined for failing to meet fire safety regulations
Review of taxi fares extended to assess impact of Middle East conflict
