Technology that uses cameras to read number plates will soon be in place at the Island's ports.
It had been hoped Automatic Number Plate Recognition devices would be used on vehicles coming to and from the Island by the end of 2025, but the project was delayed.
In an update to the Security Our Island Strategy, government has confirmed legislation to allow the cameras to be used is now in complete, with full deployment expected shortly.
It will allow the Island to see if a vehicle has been stopped previously, looks for patterns or travel history and see intelligence reports from the UK if the vehicle is suspected of being involved in criminal activity.
