Reform call valid says pro life lobby
A pro-life lobby group calling for tighter abortion laws in the Island says it's not 'misleading' anyone.
Humanity and Equality in Abortion Reform (HEAR) is seeking an outright ban on terminations.
The group was established in response to the rival Campaign for Abortion Law Modernisation (CALM) which wants Island law updated.
Although legal in the Island, abortion is only available in very limited circumstances - which CALM says means women must travel off-Island for terminations, often with little support.
A petition by HEAR calling for 'stronger safeguards' for unwanted pregnancies has amassed more than 6,000 signatures since its launch a fortnight ago.
Some opponents have accused the group of 'evasive and deceptive' campaigning in their use of the terms 'reform' and 'equality'.
