Archbishop of York to visit Island for pilgrimage

Stephen Cottrell to walk around 25 miles during visit

There's a chance to walk and pray with the Archbishop of York this weekend when he visits the Island for a pilgrimage.

Stephen Cottrell will be walking around 25 miles during his trip, as well as praying and taking part in a service at Cathedral Isle of Man.

It's part of a year-long focus on pilgrimage for Faith in the North with all churches being encouraged to see themselves as a place of pilgrimage.

Archbishop Stephen and Bishop of Sodor and Man Tricia Hillas have both been speaking to Manx Radio's Judith Ley ahead of the visit:

On Friday (25 September) the Archbishop will walk with Bishop Tricia and a pilgrim group from the Sound Cafe to Cregneash Village before holding evening prayers at Cregneash Church.

On Saturday (26 September) Archbishop Stephen and Bishop Tricia will head towards the north of the Island before walking from Ramsey to Maughold ahead of evening prayer in Maughold.

From 10am until 12pm 'Pilgrimage in Place' will be taking place at St Andrew's, at St Ninian's Crossroads, for those who wish to take part without walking.

On Sunday (27 September) the Archbishop and Bishop will be joined by a giant puppet of St German at the ancient cathedral in Peel Castle at 10am before processing to Cathedral Isle of Man for a service at 10.30am.
