
A retiring member of the Arts Council says he wishes the Island would celebrate its cultural heroes as much as it does its sports stars.
Ernie Thorn is stepping down from the council this month after completing his eight-year term.
He says over the years, government support for the arts has shrunk until now the vast majority of the Arts Council’s funding comes from the National Lottery.
He says although the Island’s sporting heroes are worth the recognition they achieve, many of our arts giants go almost unheard-of:
