Clinical director facing sexual misconduct allegations
The health and social care minister says "it would not be appropriate" to comment on the resignation of the Clinical Director of Mental Health Services at Noble's Hospital.
It's alleged Dr Timothy Byrne had a long-term affair with a patient, whilst acting as their treating psychiatrist or care coordinator.
Dr Byrne will appear before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester later this month, to face allegations of sexual misconduct.
David Ashford was asked to make a statement on the matter by Douglas South MHK Kate Costain.
Mr Ashford confirmed in writing that Dr Timothy Byrne resigned from his position on 12 June with immediate effect, but refused to comment further.
The adjourned hearing will continue on 21 and 22 July.
