Dr Allinson MHK also still considering private member's bill
An MHK has suggested voluntary assisted dying could become an election issue in 2021.
Dr Alex Allinson sparked a near-five-hour debate on the issue in Tynwald this week, which led to one of his colleagues in parliament describing his actions as 'disrespectful'.
His motion stated: "that Tynwald is of the opinion that legislation to allow for voluntary assisted dying should be introduced."
The subject itself is highly controversial, with campaign groups fighting on both sides of the argument.
MHKs and MLCs instead voted for an amendment from David Ashford, that Tynwald simply "notes the debate on assisted dying and the individual views expressed by members."
Dr Allinson's original intention was to bring a private member's bill to the court - much like he did with the Abortion Reform Bill - but he says he and other backbenchers are now weighing up their options:
