
Current strategy described as 'outdated'
Calls to reconsider the Island's plans for producing offshore energy have received almost unanimous approval in Tynwald.
A motion brought before the court asked that ministers should review its strategy for offshore energy production.
It was proposed by MLC Rob Mercer, who described the current strategy as outdated:
It was welcomed by Garff MHK, Daphne Caine, who spoke about the importance of energy goals alongside climate change targets:
The motion went on to pass almost unanimously, only Middle MHK Stu Peters voted against it:
So what, if any work, is ready to be done on this matter? Environment, Food & Agriculture Minister, Clare Barber, stated her department and ministers are committed to looking into the issue:
The other part of the approved motion stated that ministers should publish a report to Tynwald with recommendations on the matter before the last day of June 2022.
