61-year-old will be sentenced at Court of General Gaol Delivery
A Ballasalla woman will be sentenced later this year after claiming more than £66,000 in benefits she wasn’t entitled to.
Jillian Mcgrath, of Crossag Terrace, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where she pleaded guilty to seven offences of benefit fraud.
The 61-year-old failed to inform Treasury that her circumstances had changed, and she was in paid employment and had a savings account, between June 2018 and June 2023.
It meant she was overpaid £66,863.
Mcgrath will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery following the preparation of a social enquiry report.
She’s been bailed until her first appearance there on 19 April.
Update: At the Court of General Gaol Delivery Mcgrath was handed a 14-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and a two-year suspended sentence supervision order.
