Project of the year at Light Rail Awards
The rebuilding of Ballure Bridge on the Manx Electric Railway has been officially recognised in London as a remarkable feat of engineering.
It's won "Project of the year" at the 2015 Light Rail Awards for schemes under 50 million Euros.
The bridge work had been nominated in three categories; Project of the year, technical innovation of the year and outstanding engineering achievement of the year.
Director of Public Transport Ian Longworth says the Bridge project was completed on time and on budget and helps secure the safe operation of the MER for the future.
Ballure bridge had been left virtually untouched since its construction in 1897, other than receiving a new coat of paint in 1981.
