MDAI unsafe says minister
A legal high connected to the death of a 17 year-old Ramsey girl has been banned in the Island for a further year.
Politicians backed a move by Health and Social Care Minister Howard Quayle to extend the ban of MDAI - described as ‘unsafe’ by Mr Quayle - for a further 12 months.
In April 2011, Tanya Hughes died after an overdose, leading the coroner to say it should act as a warning to anyone considering taking such substances.
Backing the move, South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey said he was concerned MDAI had not yet been banned in the UK but was encouraged that Home Secretary Theresa May was trying to introduce a blanket ban of it and similar substances.
