A pilot scheme training local barbers to recognise signs of suicidal thoughts is being hailed a success
An initiative to provide suicide prevention training to local barbers has been hailed as a success.
The BarberTalk pilot scheme was launched by Public Health in October last year as part of the Island’s suicide prevention strategy.
Twenty local barbers took part in a training programme designed to equip them with the skills to recognise the warning signs in people who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts.
The suicide rate among men on the Island is three times higher than that of women, with middle-aged men at the highest risk.
