Mile of coastline being cleaned
Beach buddies will take on a major cleaning challenge today (Sunday)
Volunteers will tackle a long stretch of beach in the south of the Island.
It runs for more than a mile from the edge of Port St Mary to Fisher's Hill.
Organiser Bill Dale says this section of coast line is regularly affected by marine litter, and all previous beach cleaning events in the area have produced considerable amounts of rubbish, including significant amounts of commercial fishing gear and lobster pots.
Volunteers will meet at the slipway, opposite the Shore Hotel in Brewery Bay at 10.30am and will be split into groups to tackle different sections of the area.
As always, all equipment is provided, and items collected will be recycled where possible. New volunteers are always welcome.
