More than £8,000 wrongly claimed
A Douglas man will be sentenced in October for wrongly claiming more than £8,000 in benefits.
Forty-seven-year-old Wayne Peter Berry, of Westminster Drive, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He admitted one charge of making false representations to obtain benefits between 1 April 2018 and 2 February this year.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain said Berry was a self-employed lift engineer and hadn't been declaring some of the work he’d been doing.
On 27 December last year, investigators were told Berry had been doing work without telling the benefits office.
They launched a probe into payments that had been made into his bank account and discovered significant undeclared payments.
The hearing was told as a result he’d received £8,305 he wasn’t entitled to claim.
Magistrates bailed him in the sum of £500 and Berry will appear again for sentencing on 10 October.
