Douglas man lies to officers about being stabbed
A court's heard a Douglas man's birthday celebrations ended with two days in police cells after he falsely told officers he'd been stabbed.
Alex Maddrell of Kingswood Grove appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to one count of being found drunk in a public place on 3 November.
Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon said shortly after 5.30pm that day he called police and said he'd been stabbed.
When officers arrived in Kingswood Grove they found Maddrell outside his home, unsteady on his feet and with slurred speech.
He explained he hadn't been stabbed but had injured his hand after punching a skylight in his apartment.
The 32-year-old then made off down Crellin's Hill, forcing a driver to make an emergency stop as he ran in front of their car.
Mrs Hughes said Maddrell had spent two days in custody for an extremely minor crime, and imposed a 12-month conditional discharge as well as ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125.
