The Lord Bishop has spoken of his concern over a shortage of parking for those who attend St Matthew's church.
Bishop Robert was responding to the Department of Infrastructure's recent move to tell drivers NOT to park on the footway on North Quay in Douglas.
The department says whilst there are no raised kerbs in the area, paving stones clearly indicate where the footway is and as they are not designed to take the weight of vehicles parking there can cause significant damage.
They also point out that it is an offence to park on the footway and wardens will be actively enforcing the law. Offending drivers would be liable to receive a £60 fixed penalty.
Whilst stating that he appreciates the problem, Bishop Robert points out that the main service at St Matthew's is at 10.30 on a Sunday when no-one else is about and cars would only be parked for 90 minutes.
He adds that whilst there is another pavement on the other side of the road, over the time that the church has been there, parking has simply been taken away!
