Eight hundred tonnes brought ashore in six days
New moves taken by the Fisheries Department to protect and sustain the king scallop industry have been applauded in Tynwald.
It comes amid claims that restrictions brought in today could have been imposed sooner.
Department Minister Geoffrey Boot says that with a quarter of last year's weight of scallops taken in just six days this month, catches were now to be limited.
When asked how the substantial number of fishing boats could be policed, he said modern technology was being used.
