Fourteen-year-old appears before magistrates
A teenager’s been remanded in custody after being accused of threatening fellow school students with a knife.
The 14-year-old, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He’s charged with affray and possessing a prohibited article but hasn’t yet entered pleas to either charge.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court the boy told a friend he’d been picked on by other pupils and was going to take a blade to school.
The next day, Wednesday, 12 February, he took the knife to the site and pulled it out just before 11am.
He threatened one student with it and chased the boy he blamed for bullying him before teachers persuaded him to drop his weapon.
The court heard nobody was injured during the incident.
Magistrates refused a bail application and the boy was remanded in secure accommodation to appear again before a juvenile court on 19 February.
