Plans due to be submitted within the next month
After on-off talks for decades, it’s understood plans to create a bypass in Ballasalla are being drawn up.
It’s believed developer Dandara would fund the majority of the scheme as part of a large housing development in the area.
The road would divert traffic away from the village centre, through to the entrance to Balthane Industrial Estate.
An estimated price of £8 million has been outlined for the scheme, which would naturally take years to complete.
A similar project was put forward in the Southern Area Plan five years ago.
If proposals – due to be submitted within the next month – are ultimately approved, it’s likely to be a significant development with homes built above Ballabridson.
It’s understood the plans may also include a supermarket.
A bypass has long been called for by businesses and politicians on both safety and regeneration grounds.
