Isle of Man Travel Trade Association lobbies Treasury
Lobby group, the Isle of Man Travel Trade Association, has doubled-down on its call for government to drop Air Passenger Duty on flights in and out of Ronaldsway.
It follows the announcement from UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves that APD will increase from 2026.
The move won't mean a significant difference for commercial short haul flights - it will be around £2 per flight.
But Brian Kelly from the travel association told Manx Radio scrapping the fee would provide a bigger incentive for business travellers:
The treasury minister has told Manx Radio the fee will be reviewed ahead of the next Budget, but scrapping APD entirely has been all but ruled out.
Whilst the income from APD isn't 'ringfenced' for the airport, Dr Alex Allinson says the money it brings in - around £4million per year - will go towards upcoming plans to improve the facilities at Ronaldsway:
Assisted Dying Bill still on track, says mover
Period Products Bill 'changed drastically' but core principles remain, says MHK
