MHK pledges quest for equity in opportunity
The independent body which advises government on disability issues says more should be done to improve wheelchair access at public venues in the Island.
East Douglas MHK Clare Bettison has responded to a call by Manx Mencap for disabled theatre-goers to have more choice of seating at the Villa-Gaiety complex.
At present, a handful of seats are reserved for wheelchair users at the back of the Gaiety Theatre, while there's limited access to the main floor at the Villa.
Ms Bettison - recently appointed to the Tynwald Advisory Council for Disabilities - is promising to work more closely with disabled people, their carers, and local charities.
She says there is room for improvement:
