Callister to have 'conversations' about chief minister role

Returning Onchan MHK gives his view on who should lead the Island next

Onchan MHK Rob Callister says he will have 'conversations' over the weekend regarding whether he should throw his hat into the ring to be the Island's next chief minister.

Mr Callister was successfully elected for a third time, coming second in yesterday's poll to newcomer Dr Rachel Glover.

He was asked whether he would put himself forward for the top job and who he would support taking on the role, if not him.

Mr Callister said he would 'struggle very much' to support Alfred Cannan returning to his role as chief minister and 'probably struggle even to support the Deputy Chief Minister', Jane Poole-Wilson - but he says he could 'possibly' get behind her.

He also said he 'probably couldn't support' Treasury Minister and returning Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas taking on the role.

Meanwhile, Chris Thomas says he would take up the role of chief minister 'if called upon'.
