Groups differ in stance at UK abortion statistics
A pro-choice campaign group says figures showing fewer women travelled from the Isle of Man to the UK for abortions last year, don't show the full picture.
New data from the UK Department of Health reveals a decrease in the number to 88 in 2016, down from 105 the previous year.
The 16% drop follows a downward trend and is said to be the lowest official figure in more than a decade.
But Samantha Heard from pro-choice campaign group CALM says it may not indicate a decline in the number of Manx women seeking terminations off-Island - as unrecorded procedures are not counted.
The Island's pro-life group HEAR has welcomed the news but says it highlights a 'dire situation' where 'overly permissive laws' have allowed 186,000 abortions in the UK in a single year.
Ms Heard says that's an unacceptable stance:
