CoMin rules out Syrain refugee intake
Petitioners have been left frustrated by Council of Ministers' decision to rule out the housing of Syrian refugees on the Island.
Chair of the One World Centre Phil Craine says he was disappointed by the response after a petition of a thousand signatures asking for 25 Syrians to be housed on Island failed.
The Manx government has instead committed to donate £1 Million towards fighting humanitarian crisis in Syria.
Mr Craine says there was strong support from civil society to help house and care for the displaced Syrians.
He says although a large sum, the donation is not a permanent solution:
