
Michael MHK Alf Cannan says Tynwald members should think twice before engaging in what he calls “gesture politics” over their wages.
Last week, Chief Minister Allan Bell confirmed he wouldn’t take a 20p an hour pay rise agreed by the civil service commission for this year.
Mr Cannan says members pay is linked to the civil service to avoid having Tynwald awarding itself any rise.
But he says that system is threatened if individuals don’t abide by the commission’s decision:
