Crews use remote hoses to douse flames
Fire Services had to deal with a dangerous situation on the Round Table road yesterday (Sat).
A driver had called the emergency services after a fire broke out in his car as it was pulling a horsebox close to the Round Table crossroads.
However, it quickly became apparent there was an added danger as Divisional Officer Carl Kinvig explains.
At the height of the fire a 300 metre cordon was in place and crews heard several loud bangs, believed to be the ammunition going off. When the flames were out police firearms officers checked the vehicle was safe.
Fortunately, there were no casualties and the road was re-opened yesterday afternoon.
