Fifty-year old denied drug charge
A senior businessman charged with a drugs offence has been cleared after a one-day trial.
Danny Bakhshi was accused of being unlawfully concerned in the production of a Class B substance.
However, Mr Bakhshi was found not guilty by magistrates who have dismissed the case.
Fifty year-old Mr Bakhshi, formerly of Port St Mary, was arrested after a quantity of cannabis worth around £200 arrived in the Isle of Man from Amsterdam in August.
He was chief financial officer at Manx Telecom at the time but has since moved back to Woking with his family.
Mr Bakhshi says he’s delighted to have been acquitted and, after a spell of intense pressure, is finally able to put the last few months behind him although the cost to his reputation has been significant and there’s a presumption of guilt when his name is typed into Internet search engines.
He adds he’s grateful for the support of family and friends but disappointed at the level of support he received from his former employer, although he understands the company’s position.
