But 25-year-old gets absolute discharge from court
A Castletown man's been given an absolute discharge for smashing a police van wing mirror because it took more than a year to bring the case to court.
Twenty-five-year-old Harvey Neale, of Main Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.
He admitted causing criminal damage on February 20 last year – Neale, and another man, had been drinking in the Haven pub in Port Erin.
Just after 11pm police parked a van outside and went into the pub for a routine check – when they returned they found the mirror smashed.
CCTV later showed two men leaving the pub with one causing the damage - Neale handed himself in after an appeal on social media.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes questioned why the minor charge had taken so long to bring to court saying she was astounded.
Neale was given an absolute discharge but ordered to pay £193 compensation to police for the damage he’d done.
