More than 30 firefighters attended the blaze

The cause of a major fire in Douglas last night has not yet been established, with investigations ongoing.

Emergency services were called to the unoccupied house on Victoria Road in Douglas just after 9:30pm on Sunday night.

The incident required a significant operational response, involving more than 30 personnel, four pumping appliances, one turntable ladder, one water bowser and an Incident Command Vehicle.

The unused property, Sea Court, has suffered substantial damage in the blaze.

A Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: "Firefighters worked in challenging conditions to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to neighbouring properties. The fire was largely extinguished by 10:51pm, with crews remaining on scene until 02:03 to complete damping-down operations and personnel decontamination.

"The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and officers are keeping an open mind as investigations continue. The Fire & Rescue Service is working alongside the Isle of Man Constabulary to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. We ask the public to refrain from speculation while investigations continue."

To maintain emergency response capabilities across the Island, a further 12 firefighters were redeployed to provide additional operational cover with more than 45 Fire and Rescue Service personnel involved in responding to the incident and maintaining Island-wide emergency cover.

A cordon remains in place around the affected building, although all surrounding roads have reopened.
