Cav wins his final race

Mark Cavendish has ended his career by winning his last ever race.

The Manx Missile, who holds the record for Tour de France stage wins with 35, sprinted to victory in an event in Singapore.

Cavendish confirmed yesterday he'll be retiring from the sport at the age of 39.

Sir Mark made history in July to win an unprecedented 35th Tour de France stage, breaking the previous record set by cycling legend Eddie Merckx.

He was made a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the 2024 King's Birthday Honours List for 'his outstanding contribution to the sport of cycling, his on-Island and off-Island charity work and as a sporting ambassador for the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.'

He then received his knighthood at Windsor Castle in October from HRH Prince of Wales and in doing so became the first person from the Isle of Man to be knighted since Sir Norman Wisdom 24 years ago.

Along with his Tour de France honours, Cavendish's glittering career also includes 17 Giro D'Italia stage wins and Olympic silver in the Omnium at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.

Elsewhere he won Commonwealth Games gold for the Isle of Man in the scratch race in Melbourne in 2006 and won the World Road Race Championship in Copenhagen in 2011.
