New rules to seek informed consent of customer information
New laws governing how companies use and store personal data are being implemented across Europe today.
But the EU General Data Protection Regulation - or GDPR - won't be fully enforced in the Isle of Man until 1 July.
It's to allow extra time for the legislation to be drawn up.
The rules govern the way businesses operating in the EU can utilise customer's information, with large fines threatened for those which do not comply.
Government's Director of Change and Reform Dan Davies explains what this means (audio below).
