Fee could deter 'sizable' number - MBWS
The Manx Blind Welfare Society says proposals to introduce charges for eye tests could deter a 'sizable' section of the population from having their sight checked.
Health chiefs this week unveiled a raft of cost-saving measures, which include ending annual, free visits to the optician for all.
Instead, the test would be offered every two years for a fee of £10 - which the department says is a contribution to the actual cost.
While the charity supports biennial testing, it's advising against any measure which could deter people from having a regular test.
The Society's Chief Executive Ian Cooil says the charge will be an issue for some:
