
There's a chance to find out more about what's involved in becoming a Samaritan today (20 April).
The Island branch of the charity is holding a recruitment day at the Strand shopping centre between 10am and 4pm.
Members will be giving out information from a stall and for those interested in going to the next stage, there will be three presentations during the day about the training and commitment involved, from an empty shop unit.
The ability to listen without judging or interrupting are the main qualities volunteers need, along with a few hours to spare each week as part of the Samaritans' phone-line support service for people in crisis.
