Public should not worry, urge police
If you see military and local police vehicles near some Island schools this weekend, the message is to not worry.
Updated guidance on the storage of a chemical (2, 4-Dinitrophenylhydrazine) which is used in school chemistry lessons has led to a programme of similar disposals across the British Isles.
Isle of Man Police Lead Search Adviser PC Kevin Williams has been co-ordinating the EOD operation.
He says officers are satisfied the risk presented by the storage of this chemical by schools here has been negligible.
PC Williams adds the help of Explosive Ordnance Disposal has been sought in line with current guidance, as this is deemed the safest method of disposal.
There will probably be a number of small controlled explosions, but there will be no risk to the public or property.
