18 questions tabled by HoK

Eighteen questions have been tabled for the candidates vying to be the next chief minister.

Kirrie Jenkins and Chris Thomas will have the opportunity to answer them in the House of Keys this morning (13 October).

The first question, asked by Garff MHK Richard Henthorn, centres around the Marine Infrastructure Management Act.

He wants to know if the candidates would ‘fully support’ the full, unredacted, release of the agreement for lease document held by the Department for Infrastructure.

Ramsey MHK Robert Cowell, who proposed Mr Thomas for the top job, wants to know what three specific actions each would prioritise in their first 100 days as chief minister.

Glenfaba and Peel MHK Katryna Baptist, who nominated Ms Jenkins, will ask how they plan to improve the culture and work environment for Tynwald members so they can ‘work well together for the benefit of islanders’.

Her constituency colleague Daniel Davison wants to know how many newly elected members the candidates intend to bring into the Council of Ministers.

Questions have also been tabled about the emphasis on economic growth, skills shortages and apprenticeship opportunities and safeguards to protect the elderly in the digital world.

Nursing care funding, the extension of childcare credit, and a response to MONEYVAL will also be under the spotlight along with gaps in mental health provision.

The MHKS who have not tabled questions, aside from the candidates, are: David Ashford, Alfred Cannan, Rob Callister and Jane Poole-Wilson.
