Royal Chapel in St John's to host commemoration
A vigil will begin on Thursday night, running into Friday morning, to remember the thousands who died in one of the bloodiest battles of World War One.
The Battle of the Somme took place exactly a hundred years ago on Friday.
British forces suffered almost 60,000 casualties on the first day alone, of what became a five-month engagement.
The vigil will take place at the Royal Chapel in St John's.
